Academic Support & Enrichment

Program Partners:  Tahoe Tutoring, AAUW Tahoe Nevada, Nevada Arts Council

Incline Education Fund (IEF) is dedicated to providing both support and enrichment programs at Incline schools.

After the success of a pilot math support program at Incline Elementary School, which significantly helped students get back on track, we are now funding additional in-school math support for elementary students who have not yet reached grade-level proficiency. Our goal is to expand this support to serve the entire K-8 student population.

In addition to math support, IEF is also funding a variety of reading programs at the elementary school to help cement reading comprehension skills. Through successful grant awards from the Bessie Minor Swift Foundation and the Wish You Well Literacy program, our offerings include before-, during- and after-school options for both students and adults.

IEF is also providing enrichment programs in both math and reading. Local volunteers are using the new Nevada Math curriculum to provide weekly “Math in a Bag” lessons for accelerated math students in the 3rd and 4th grades. At the middle school, there is a MathCounts Club that participates in local and regional math competitions. These programs challenge students to stay engaged and push their academic limits. Additionally, we hope to collaborate with local community partners to expand our reading enrichment program next year.

As part of our commitment to enriching the arts and literacy, IEF has funded presentations by nationally recognized children’s authors and brought talented writers to our schools, including Jeanne Hill, Deborah Hopkinson, Joanna Howes, Jarrett Lerner, and Suzanne Williams, as well as artist Jen Stark. Through our partnership with the Nevada Arts Council, Ms. Williams hosted a “Writing Workshop Series” for 4th and 5th graders, while local children’s author Meg Wilson presented a showcase of her books. These initiatives foster creativity and inspire a love for reading and writing among students.nd 5th graders, and local children’s author Meg Wilson held a presentation showcasing her books.

As funding becomes available, IEF is committed to adding more support and enrichment programs, continually working to enhance the educational experience for all students in Incline schools.
